If not now, then when?

A few weeks ago, I was a vendor at the Women Who Inspire conference. I spent my day meeting and chatting with so many amazing women, but one interaction I had that day has stayed with me since.

This sweet woman, with the most gentle spirit was admiring the portraits I had on display and remarked, "Oh, I'm too old for that."

I couldn't help but ask why she thought that. She grazed her hand on her cheek slowly and said that she had too many wrinkles. I told her that I thought they were beautiful, and I truly meant it.

It's unfortunate that as we get older, women get less accurate media representation. You may have heard actresses speak about how good roles start disappearing for them once they reach a certain age (or that older female roles are played by younger actresses). Wouldn't it be amazing to see women of all ages consistently and positively represented in magazines, advertisements, movies etc. I'd like to play my part in creating that change by encouraging you to exist in portraits, be visible and celebrate yourself at every age. Be fabulous at 50- 60-70-80-90-100!

I don't believe anyone is ever too old (or too heavy, or too thin, or too anything) to have, or be worthy of, a beautiful portrait of themselves.
